Aftercare matters as much as the treatment itself. In the first 14 days after semi-permanent makeup, the skin heals, flakes, and settles. Touching, picking, water, heat, and sun in this period can change how colour settles. At Gyul Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, aftercare is explained on a sheet you receive at the clinic. This guide summarises the general rules from the clinic's aftercare guide, by area, for the first 14 days. The sheet you receive at the clinic comes first if anything here differs. Results vary from person to person.

The rules for every area
Do not touch or scratch the treated area with your hands. Do not pick or pull flakes or scabs. Let them fall off on their own. Picking can remove colour unevenly and slow healing. Keep the area clean and dry as directed on the aftercare sheet. For the first week, avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, and hard exercise. Protect the area from strong sun. Wash your hands before any care you are told to give the area, and use only the products the clinic tells you to use on the treated area. Do not start new exfoliants, retinoids, or strong active skincare on the treated area without asking at consultation or follow-up.
Colour often looks darkest in the first 1 to 2 days, with slight swelling. Flaking usually appears on days 3 to 5. Colour looks lighter as flakes fall off on days 5 to 7. That lightening is a normal part of healing. Colour then settles over the following weeks. The final result cannot be judged reliably in the first few days, and it cannot be judged reliably on the day flakes fall off either. Keep sun protection up after the first 14 days as well, because sun affects fading.
Eyebrows: the first 14 days
Just after brow treatment, brows can look red, darker, and thicker than usual. That is a normal early stage. Do not pick flakes. For about 5 days, when you wash your face, keep the treated area dry as directed; avoid a direct stream of water on the treated area and do not soak it. Showering the rest of the body is different from soaking the treated area — follow the aftercare sheet you receive. Avoid swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for about 1 week. Apply any healing ointment you receive exactly as directed, for the period the clinic advises. This post does not give ointment dosages. Ask at the clinic how to wash around the brows, how to sleep without rubbing them, and when brow makeup and brow grooming can resume, as directed on the aftercare sheet. If you are travelling, keep the aftercare sheet and the clinic phone number with you.
Eyeliner: the first 14 days
Swelling for 1 to 2 days is common after eyeliner work. A cold compress can help, as directed on the aftercare sheet. For 2 to 3 days, crusting, stiffness, or itching around the eyes can occur. Do not rub your eyes and do not pick at flakes. Avoid spicy food for about 3 days, as directed on the aftercare sheet you receive. Eye makeup is best resumed after about 1 week, as directed at the clinic. Ask in advance about contact lenses, eyelash extensions, and eye treatments, and follow the instructions you receive for your case. Do not share eye products, and keep eye care clean and gentle in this period.
Lips: the first 14 days
Keep lips moisturised as directed, so lips do not dry out. Apply any ointment or medicine you receive exactly as directed. Keep the lip area dry as directed for about 2 days, as directed on the aftercare sheet you receive, and do not soak it, and take care with sun for about 1 week. Do not pick flakes from the lips. Avoid spicy, salty, very hot, and acidic food and drink if the clinic advises it for your case, and ask how to eat and drink in the first days. If you have a history of cold sores, follow the preventive care instructions you receive, and contact the clinic promptly if blistering appears. If you have an active cold sore, treatment should be postponed, so tell the clinic as soon as you notice it.
Hairline and scalp: the first 14 days
For hairline and scalp work, keep the area clean and dry as directed, do not rub hard during flaking, and avoid saunas, swimming, and long sun exposure in the early healing period. The aftercare sheet you receive describes light washing from about 3 days after treatment and normal shampoo from about 1 week after treatment. Avoid hot dryer air on the treated area in the early healing period. Ask at consultation how hats, helmets, hair products, and hair dye apply to your case. Do not dye or bleach hair near the treated area without asking first.
When to seek care promptly
Aftercare at home does not replace medical care. Seek local medical care promptly, and contact the clinic, if redness, swelling, pain, discharge, blistering, or fever gets worse, if you cannot open your eye, if lip swelling spreads, or if you feel unwell. Do not wait until you are home to ask about worsening symptoms, especially if you are visiting Seoul for only a few days. Keep a note of when symptoms started, what care you gave, and what medicine or ointment you used, as directed. Bring the aftercare sheet when you seek care, if you can.

Questions about aftercare
When can I wash my face?
Follow the aftercare sheet for your area. Brow and lip areas need the treated area kept dry as directed for the first days, as directed on the aftercare sheet you receive. Wash around the area gently, and do not soak or rub the treated area.
What if it itches or flakes?
Itching and flaking are common in early healing. Do not scratch or pick. Let flakes fall off on their own, keep the area clean and dry as directed, and contact the clinic if itching, redness, or swelling gets worse.
When can I wear makeup again?
It depends on the area. Eye makeup is best resumed after about 1 week for eyeliner, as directed at the clinic. Ask at the clinic for brow, lip, hairline, and scalp makeup and hair products, and follow the sheet you receive.
